Why so quiet?

For the past 6 months Thame First have been fairly quiet. This has been a concious decision on the part of the current steering committee as we felt that we need to improve our own internal systems etc before going to the wider business community and asking for membership.

During this time we haven’t been idle though!

Listed below is a concise list of the schemes we have been working on.

Loyalty Card

Having spoke to a number of different providers we have found none of the systems to be satisfactory for a small town and have found ourselves unable to back any specific offering. On closer inspection we have found some of the schemes to be either a) only offering a discount scheme NOT a true loyalty scheme (a la Boots, Tesco’s etc) and b) to cost as much as 7% of turnover or c) BOTH!!!

As a result we have spoken to a number of funding bodies to seek startup capital to launch a system which truly fits the needs of local businesses. We hope to have news of this scheme and how it will work in the next few weeks.

Recycling Scheme

One of the key goals for Thame First has been to promote wider uptake of sustainable business practices in the town. As a result of this we have been in discussion with SODC to launch a recycling scheme for all the businesses in the town.

The first stage of this is to get a number of volunteers to allow SODC to take part in a waste audit which will help us gauge the needs in the town. We are actively seeking volunteers at the moment so if you’d like to help out please contact us via email at:

Wireless Thame

We have looked at many options for introducing a town wide wireless network and currently have been unable to find a cost effective solution. We are continuing to look at this but have for the time being decided to reduce the resources we are using to investigate this.

So as you can see we haven’t been sitting idle but we have been a bit quiet.
